Criminals upset about unfair media image

Dateline, Chicago

Those engaged in the careers of professional organized criminal activities are protesting against the unfair and outdated image put on their families, activities and themselves.  Hate words such as Gangster, Mobster, Goon and Mustache Pete are in all forms of mass media. They produce an extremely negative image of today's Crime Executive. Not only does this provide self-image problems for those involved in crime, it also makes negotiations with law enforcement agencies very difficult. One unnamed DA said, "If you read a headline that says, 'DA is in talk with criminal professionals' you may feel positively. If you read a line that says, 'DA involved in Mob nominations' you think very negatively.
Hollywood, the traditional leader in spreading negative images of crime, seems to be getting better. In movies such as American Gangster, the lead is shown as intelligent and professional. The movie, roughly adapted from a true story about under-pricing high quality Heroin for the masses, was a huge success. Hopefully, in future films, heads of criminal families won't talk with cotton balls in their mouths or wear pinstripe suits.
All of us need to get along. We should watch our words. We need to think about how to speak using positive words.  In the future, if such negative speak is not eliminated, government controls could put the media in the cross hairs.
